Parents & Families

Learning starts early. Even before children crawl, they’ve started to develop learning, language and social skills. Their minds absorb everything around them. So you want to make sure they’re in a quality learning environment. Grow NJ Kids provides numerous resources to help you find or build that environment.

Find a Quality Environment

Grow NJ Kids has enlisted many programs in an effort to improve the quality of child care and early learning in New Jersey.

One result of that effort is a rating system to help parents find the right program that will lead to their child’s success. Grow NJ Kids uses stars to show different levels of quality.

Developmental Screenings - Early Intervention Services

Children develop at different paces, but there are developmental milestones that children should reach by certain times during the first three years of there lives. When children fail to reach these milestones, parents and other caregivers should consider contacting Early Intervention for an evaluation. The New Jersey Early Intervention System (NJEIS), under the Division of Family Health Services, provides information and services for infants and toddlers, birth to age three, with developmental delays or disabilities, and their families. For more information, visit their website.

Families of children three years old and older can receive referrals for assistance from Project Child Find. Call 800-322-8174 for more information. Services for older children are typically provided through the local school district.
